Billing Philosophy
At Nistler Law Office, s.c., we take a value added approach to billing. This means that before we take on a new case, we have an honest discussion with our clients about the potential costs of handling a matter and we only accept a case if we are confident that a client's goals can be pursued at an acceptable price.
In smaller matters, we often set flat fees, so that our client knows exactly what the bill will be for each service we offer and can make an informed decision about whether they want to hire us for their matter, and if they do, whether they want us to try a case to verdict, to file motions, or to negotiate a settlement, because the costs involved are clearly spelled out.
In larger and more complex matters we do bill hourly, however, with our lower overhead we are able to bill at a lower rate than most larger firms that handle these caliber of cases. As a result, our clients often pay less than the parties they are up against and at the same time our clients' cases get more time and attention, which gives our clients an advantage in the litigation.
Additionally, unlike many firms that charge clients for researching Wisconsin Case Law on Westlaw, we do not. Because we are a three lawyer firm, we are eligible for and take advantage of a Westlaw subscription that allows us unlimited access to their Wisconsin Case Law Library. Unlike large law firms who have to pay for their usage and pass it on to clients, we are free to research an issue without the concern about additional mounting costs. This makes for better, more thorough research and gives our clients yet another competitive edge.
